About MBB
If you’ve been a business owner in Michigan, there’s no doubt you’ve received numerous calls about building or optimizing a website for your business.
When those calls come in, they seem scripted, impersonal, and without feeling.
Although you know the internet is powerful, there’s absolutely no way the person reading that script has the ability to portray your business for what it truly is.
If you’re going to consult with someone about building your business, who would you rather talk to?
- Someone hired by a company to build websites who was given a set of numbers to call, hoping they could make money off your business…
OR
- Someone with an extensive background in business who invested their time, hard work, and money into becoming a freelance copywriter so they could help others grow their businesses?
Why Hire Brandy Booth?
I’m dead serious about this line of work being my passion. Here’s why:
The Family Businesses
Growing up, my grandfather owned a good-sized excavation company and a large beef cattle farm in Northern Michigan. Like all the grandsons, I worked for him during high school and afterward.
I’ll never forget one Saturday morning shortly after NAFTA was passed. We were having breakfast and getting ready to take a load of cattle to market.
We were going out the door when the farm report came on TV. The headline from that newscast is forever burned into my brain.
“Cattle Prices Plummet”
The video from the helicopter flying above the Mexican border is something I’ll never forget either.
There were miles and miles of cattle trailers just like ours lined up to come into the country.
Another thing I’ll always remember is the sad look on my grandpa’s face as we left the cattle auction that day.
The news was right.
The excavation company seemed to follow suit. The economy was faltering, and new construction came to a halt.
Experience Forged in Steel
In 1993, I was hired as a millwright apprentice at Saginaw Steering Gear. I worked in skilled trades for ten years, but I wasn’t happy with what I saw going on around me.
The company wasn’t doing well, and it certainly wasn’t being operated the way Grandpa ran the family business.
I ran for union office on a platform for change and won. For the next ten years, I worked my way up through the ranks. I learned about value streams, energy savings, and overhead. I negotiated on behalf of nearly 8,000 people.
I sat at the bargaining table when the automotive companies went through bankruptcy. It was my job to negotiate agreements and explain to the membership why tough changes had to be made.
It was the most stressful job I’ve ever had.
I learned about tax breaks and transportation costs, fought against outsourcing and laws that hurt Michigan businesses, and negotiated an extensive retraining for our members to protect our jobs.
Whether you’re pro-union or anti-union, there’s one thing I hope you can appreciate.
I spent a LOT of time encouraging everyone I encountered to shop locally for products and services.
I still do.
A Shift in Thinking
During my years in office, I encountered many different programs to help employees become more efficient, change their work habits, and think more positively.
I was one of the few union guys who “bought into” this training. Many of the others accused management of trying to “brainwash” them and refused to attend.
I liked the classes so much, I became a facilitator and taught the concepts to our membership. I learned things like how to create a positive expectancy and how to see opportunity in change, even when it seemed entirely negative.
Some of the information in these programs really hit home for me. When I left office, I continued to study these materials and pursued opportunities with similar local companies.
I attended entrepreneurial gatherings and Chamber of Commerce meetings. I took marketing, web design, and writing classes at the local college.
In 2009, I began studying copywriting. Since then, I’ve taken multiple courses from American Writers and Artists and other professional organizations about how to write effective marketing and promotional campaigns for business owners.
The classes I’ve taken include:
- Accelerated Copywriting
- Online Marketing (Web Copy 2.0)
- Content Marketing
- Social Networking
- Business-to-Business Marketing
- E-mail / Autoresponder Training
- Sales Funnel Optimization
- And several more…
Passion + Experience + Training = Profits
There’s nothing better than the moment my clients realize the marketing plans we’ve put together are paying off.
That’s just the first part. A close second is when they realize that we’ve put a valuable structure in place that will work for them all day long for years to come.
Thriving businesses are good for our communities. They pay the taxes that keep our infrastructure in place. They provide the jobs our kids will need when they graduate.
They’re the foundation of the American Dream and the basis of Free Enterprise.
